From 'tee tee tee' to Teenage Dream

When Chey was around 2, she'd always refer to herself as "tee tee tee", meaning - 'teeny, teeny, tiny baby'. It was so adorable. Now, she is a sophomore in High School. My baby is almost all grown up! :'(

That cute little sprite is now a beautiful, thoughtful, kind young woman and I am so proud of her. She just finished her Personal Progress and has a great spirit about her (most of the time - just don't cross her when she is stressed about school or in a bad mood - YIKES! -).

Although high school can be a difficult time for girls (and their parents!), she has a good head on her shoulders and has a wonderful group of friends, so I don't worry too much about her. Why should I when her favorite class is Seminary and she and her friends have BOM reading parties during March madness?? I'm truly blessed.

Two down, two to go...

My Hannah started Jr. High today. Well technically, the first day of school is Monday - today is just 7th grade orientation, but still... I can't believe how quickly she has grown up. It seems like just yesterday she was this cute little toddler who entertained everyone who would watch (and would throw a fit if EVERYONE didn't watch - yeah, she liked attention). Now she is a beautiful young lady who is mature beyond her years. She may only be 11, but she looks and acts (most of the time) like she is 14. I'm hoping Jr. High doesn't change her kind, friendly, inclusive nature. I'm pretty confident it won't. Besides, she knows she'll have to face my wrath if it does! The principal and teachers all know she is Chey and Dallas' little sister, so they have high expectations of her, which I know she will live up to. The principal is glad she has 6 more years of Terry children to look forward too. She said the school wouldn't be the same without one. That made me very, very proud. :)

TheSweat Gene

There are many wonderful things I inherited from my Dad - my height, my big eyes, my nice skin... The one thing I inherited that I absolutely HATE is the Smith sweat gene. I break a sweat just doing the dishes or vacuuming. It's pitiful! Even when I am in tip-top shape, I sweat buckets. It's embarrassing, which is why I choose to work out in the privacy of my own home. I would probably bankrupt the poor gym just with the amount of towels they would have to launder when I wiped down their equipment after I used it. They would have to put CAUTION signs around me in a class so no one would slip in the puddles of sweat on the floor should they choose to work out next to me. Seriously.

This morning I started working out again after a way too long hiatus, and although it feels great to get moving and start the process of losing weight and getting back into shape (AGAIN - didn't I just do this 2 years ago? Depressing...) the sweating really sucks. I'm starting off slow and fun (a dozen or so dances on Just Dance 2) which only makes my shirt and headband wet, but when I work my way back to running 5 miles, every inch of me will be drenched and I will be red as a beet. I promise to spare my neighbors the horror though. I'll only run after dark. ;)

Tales of a 4th Grade Something

My baby starts 4th grade today. Ms. Hall, you are in for an adventure. Oh, he seems innocent enough at first. He'll start out very quiet and shy - very respectful. But by the year's end, you will wonder what planet this child (and his 3 best friends) came from. Prepare your self for 'midget mode', a lot of weird hand movements accompanied by even weirder sounds, and the quirkiest sense of humor ever. He'll still be respectful, honest, and kind, but he will also let his inner odd duck out and crack jokes at the least appropriate moments. Just thought I'd warn you...

And so it begins...

I thought I'd give this blogging thing a go. I am very technologically challenged, so this will be an adventure, yeah?
